Policies related to biodiversity and ecosystems

Heinzel Group’s mills procure timber and pulp from sources that are certified according to the PEFC (Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) or FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) standards, wherever possible. This ensures that fibers come from responsibly managed forests. Heinzel Group’s mills use waste wood and thinned wood from the surrounding regions to produce pulp—primarily spruce at heinzelpöls and aspen at Estonian Cell. Wood for the mill in Pöls is sourced from local forest owners via a purchasing group within a radius of no more than 150–200 km to ensure regional economic benefits and minimize logistics-related emissions. Further reinforcing responsible procurement, Heinzel Group published a new Code of Conduct for suppliers in 2025 and started to integrate these principles into purchasing processes. This Code of Conduct for suppliers formalizes expectations for all partners and includes strict commitments to environmental responsibility and the sourcing of certified wood in accordance with FSC® and PEFC requirements.
