Actions and resources related to pollution
Heinzel Group is committed to complying with all national and industry-related regulations regarding air and water pollution. All mills adhere to strict environmental standards and operate in accordance with ISO 14001. These standards ensure compliance through regular audits and continuous improvements in environmental performance. Heinzel Group is committed to minimizing the environmental impact of its production sites through continuous process optimization and the implementation of advanced environmental technologies. Examples of measures from 2025:At heinzelpaper, the conversion of the PM11 Aurora production line made it possible to dispense with bleaching chemicals such as DTPA (Diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid), hydrogen peroxide, caustic soda, and sodium dithionite. This removes AOX-forming (adsorbable organic halogen compounds) substances from the process, significantly reducing chemical-related environmental impact. In addition, a 5,400 m² enclosed recovered paper storage facility was put into operation, replacing the previous outdoor storage. This reduces the spread of light contamination, protects the material from the effects of weather, reduces odor and noise emissions, and improves controlled handling and storage. At heinzelpöls, measures to reduce odors were implemented in the unbleached kraft pulp production area. The integration of exhaust air from the washing press into the weak gas system, as well as additional maintenance and optimization work on impingement and extraction systems, improves emission control and reduces potential odor nuisance for the surrounding area. All pollution-related incidents at our production sites in 2025 were addressed immediately, preventing any lasting environmental impact. Continuous strengthening of site-specific monitoring, maintenance, and technical systems ensures that dust, oil, and other pollution-related risks are effectively managed and further reduced. Because pollution-related measures may have direct or indirect effects on local residents living near Heinzel Group’s production sites, they also fall within the scope of ESRS E3 Affected communities .
